When Patrick was growing up his teachers constantly scolded him for drawing monsters in class. Many years later he illustrated his very first book, Halloween Holiday Grab Bag, and got to put those monsters to good use. In the days since, he has illustrated over seventy books for children. They include More or Less a Mess, Yikes-Lice! (Science Books and Films Best Books), I Have A Weird Brother Who Digested A Fly (Society of School Librarians International Honor Book), and Paul Bunyan. His work has appeared in National Geographic, Sesame Street Magazine, USA Today, Kid City, Spider, Weekly Reader, and Instructor Magazine.

For over ten years Patrick has enjoyed visiting schools and speaking at Young Author's Conferences and libraries all over the country. His program shows students how he illustrates a children's book, from the moment he receives the manuscript through publication. He educates students in a fun and entertaining presentation that demonstrates how he brings a story and it's characters to life.

Patrick shows how he prepares final art for his books using a brief slide presentation. He discusses tools of the trade along with his work routines, education and influences. Students participate in a question and answer period, and the appearance ends with drawings created on the spot from their suggestions. Special activities such as classroom visits and autograph sessions can be arranged at your request.
